Health Benefits of Oranges
1. Boosts Immune System
Citrus fruits are also a great way to keep your health in the present. That’s because they are filled with Vitamin C, which you need to produce the white blood cells that destroy viruses, bacteria, and other foreign invaders. Oranges also contain vitamin A, folate and copper, nutrients that assist Vitamin C in keeping your immune system in tip-top shape.
2. Fights Against Cancer
A compound called D-linonene, usually found in Oranges and other citrus fruits, fights against various cancers like colon cancer, lung cancer, skin cancer, breast cancer etc. Vitamin C protects cells from damage by free radicals.
3. Good for Your Skin
As we grow older, our skin along with other body parts suffers from free radical damage. This process is similar to how metals rust after exposure to air. Even though it is inevitable, oranges are packed with antioxidants and Vitamin C which slows down the process and makes you look younger than your age! Besides oranges, you can eat these fruits and vegetables for glowing skin!
4. They Regulate High Blood Pressure
The flavonoid hesperidin found in oranges helps regulate high blood pressure, and the magnesium in oranges helps maintain blood pressure.
5. Good for Digestive System
The content of fiber is relatively high so it is good for those who have digestion problem. Soluble fiber contained in orange will help in normalizing the move of waste and food inside the intestine system and at the same time removing all the necessary substances.
6. Oranges for Cholesterol
The pectin in oranges has properties just like that of the pectin in grapefruit for lowering cholesterol levels. Hesperidin has also been shown to lower cholesterol.
7. Prevents Kidney Stones
The high vitamin C present in oranges is excellent for kidney health too. It helps reduce the risk of developing calcium oxalate kidney stones by increasing the level of citrate in the urine, which neutralizes acids and inhibits kidney stone formation by reducing the crystallization of uric acid and calcium oxalate. In fact, researchers at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center suggest that drinking a glass of orange juice daily can be more effective in preventing kidney stones than other citrus fruit juices.
