From the blueberry to the goji berry, the super berry has been taking the health scene by storm. Low calorie, low carbohydrate and packed full of antioxidants: there’s no wonder why we are going bonkers for berries! One of the latest additions to the super berry bedlam is the Maqui Berry. Grown in abundance within Southern Chile, Maqui Berry, referred to botanically as Aristotelia Chilensis, it is claimed to be one of the greatest super berries of the bunch.

Health Benefits of Maqui Berry

1. Improves Cardiovascular Health

The antioxidants in maqui berries help to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol in the blood. When cholesterol is oxidized it can lead to the development of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke or hardening of the heart’s arteries.

2. Diabetes

Use of maqui berries and also juice is shown to improve insulin manufacturing within the body. This can be good for diabetics attempting to equilibrium glucose levels soon after meals.

3. For Weight Loss

Plenty has been written online about the weight loss benefits you can achieve from adding maqui berries to your diet. The fact that maqui berries are so nutritious and can help detox your system makes them ideal as part of a diet regime. Maqui berries help flush the toxins from your system meaning that your body will function more effectively overall. They can have a positive impact on your metabolism and digestion and help you to absorb food more effectively with less being stored as fat. They are certainly not a miracle fat busting cure. Simply eating maqui berries or taking a supplement is unlikely to have any real impact unless you incorporate them into a wider health regime that includes dieting and exercise.

4. Dry Eye

A pilot study published in Panminerva Medica in 2014 examined the use of a maqui berry extract (taken orally in a daily dosage of either 30 mg or 60 mg) for a period of 60 days. Scores on the Dry Eye-related Quality of Life Score decreased significantly after supplementation at both dosages, and tear fluid volume increased significantly after 30 days of treatment. After 60 days, tear fluid volume dropped slightly in the group taking 30 mg, whereas the improvement persisted in those taking 60 mg per day. Further research is needed, as this study was very small (13 participants) and did not have a control group.

5. Boosts Metabolism

Is lethargy getting you down? Try maqui berry! These amazing berries boost your metabolism and give your body a new found stamina. Maqui berry helps to kick-start digestion, which in turn leads to a proper release of energy.

6. Anti-Aging

Because of the antioxidants in maqui berries, they can help slow down premature aging caused by an accumulation of free radicals in the body.
