CrossFit is all about basic exercises involving body resistance, gymnastics, aerobics, weightlifting, and other high-intensity moves. By doing this, CrossFit targets what it calls the major components of physical fitness: cardiorespiratory fitness, stamina, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, power, speed, agility, balance, coordination, and accuracy. CrossFit has seen a huge growth in popularity worldwide since it first started in the early 2000s. If you haven’t been tempted into a CrossFit yet, let us walk you through the benefits of CrossFit that are sure to make you a CrossFit enthusiast!

1. Better Conditioning and Versatility

CrossFit programs are designed to increase physical performance in a diverse way, whether it means being able to simply perform everyday tasks better (like mowing the lawn) or preparing your body for tough competitions. CrossFit athletes train their muscles, joints, and ligaments using functional movements, which means they’re useful for more than just looking good in a bathing suit. Well-rounded workouts that use large muscle groups and various ranges of motion lead to better overall health, posture, flexibility, strength, and balance.

2. Motivation

The key to CrossFit is the intensity, but hidden in that fact is that you’re inherently pushing yourself to do the most you can through each exercise in the workout. Everyone wants results, but not everyone puts in the effort. In a regular gym, it’s easy to cheat reps here and there or sneak a longer break than necessary, but because of how the CrossFit workout is tailored, there’s no option other than to max yourself out.

Within a couple weeks of going to CrossFit training regularly, you’ll begin to notice that you’re getting stronger and more toned. Whether you’re carrying your kids to and from the car, lifting a bag of dog food, or simply unscrewing a jar lid, you’ll definitely notice a difference.

CrossFit Cautions

This extreme program is not for the weak of heart—literally. We don’t recommend CrossFit if you have cardiac disease, pre-existing injuries (such as back problems, an old ACL tear or other knee injuries, or elbow tendinitis), biomechanical issues, osteoporosis, or any other health conditions that might preclude vigorous, high-impact activity. And it is not a good beginner workout for people who are out of shape. If you have been sedentary or have health concerns but still want to try it, get your doctor’s okay first. If you get the all-clear, you can take an introductory class, usually free.
