You Should Not Overeat Healthy Foods, Here's Why

Eating nutritious foods is a need, considering they promote health and help in the proper functioning of your body. But did you know that eating excess of it can be equally dangerous as junk food? No matter what type food it is, you must be aware of the portion size. Anything in excess is bad, which clearly means overeating healthy foods may also harm your system in more ways than one. For those who wish to lose weight, this piece of information may be helpful for you. How do you define healthy food? An edible substance that has important nutrients to give to the body that helps it function better.

But what is important to know is that no food, even if it is known to be healthy, has zero calories. So if you are constantly bingeing on these foods, you are still adding on to calories. If you are on a weight loss journey, calories taken in must be less than the calories burned, in order to shed extra kilos. If you think eating these foods will help you in some way, you are wrong; this is where portion control comes in.

Now let’s take a look at some foods that you should definitely not overeat

• Fruits

Fruits are yummy and super-healthy; thanks to the presence of numerous vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidant pigments and phytochemicals that lessen the risk of different health problems, only if eaten in moderation. Most fruits are high in simple sugar like fructose that is metabolized to fat in the liver. Eating large amounts of these goodies, especially those with high glycemic index like banana, dates, pineapples, mangoes, and grapes, may raise blood sugar levels, provoke insulin and increase the chances of developing type-2 diabetes.

• Nuts

Nuts are tiny wonders known to have many health properties. They are packed with protein, fiber, and healthy fats that offer more benefits than one. However, due to their high protein and fat content, over-indulging in them may not be a good idea. Moreover, avoid packaged nuts as they are loaded with sodium content that can be harmful to your health. Eat a mix of handful of nuts like almonds, walnuts, raisins, pecan, and pistachios.

• Protein Rich Foods

Proteins are deemed as the building blocks of tissues, cells, and hormones, without which the body cannot function. Too much protein can put excessive strain on the digestive system, especially the kidneys that are responsible for eliminating the nitrogen waste products from the blood. So, if you are loading up on proteins, you may be inviting problems.

• Starchy Vegetables Like Peas, and Corn

Peas may be green, but did you know dietitians consider them in the same class as potatoes? That’s because peas, along with corn, are starchy vegetables—higher in carbohydrates and calories than other veggies, say researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in their publication Your Diet & Diabetes. One serving contains 15 grams of carbs or more than a slice of whole-wheat toast. They’re healthy and should by no means be shunned, but it’s a good idea to keep your servings to ½ cup. Save the all-you-can-eat action for Kale, Chinese cabbage, and Broccoli.

• Water

Yes, proper hydration is necessary for optimal health. However, drinking too much water can dilute the sodium levels in the body and further affect the functioning of the cells. Low sodium levels can trigger water to rush into the cells causing the brain to swell.
